We Eat What We Feed: Kerr Consulting – a Case Study

We offer world class solutions to small, medium, and enterprise customers, solving their business challenges by designing innovative technology strategies.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS
Kerr Consulting wanted to better serve their customers by increasing resource utilization, streamlining and automating the billing process and improving the efficiency of the expense reporting and billing process. The first required step was to replace our current loosely integrated accounting, billing and expense reporting systems (Sage 300, Sage CRM, Certify Expense reporting) with a tightly integrated solution, Sage Intacct coupled with Nexonia expense reporting With over 50 employees spread across 20 offices we needed a cloud-based solution that could:
  • Improve billing frequency, accuracy and timeliness
  • Deliver up to date custom reports and dashboards
  • Eliminate duplicate entry in multiple systems

THE SOLUTION
Kerr Consulting chose to implement Sage Intacct for its tightly integrated Project and Financial accounting capabilities that are based in the cloud. Previously projects were entered in Sage CRM which employees coded their time against and then an integration was run to bill the customers through Sage 300. Billing was done monthly except by client request for weekly billing. With Sage Intacct’s tight integration between Project Accounting and its Time and Billing modules, Kerr Consulting was able to move to weekly billing within a matter of months of implementation.

In addition to the billing change Dave Kerr, CEO said he was now able to get dashboards that provide the following real-time information:
  • Dashboard – Up to Date Productivity by Employee for month and YTD
  • Dashboard – Realtime Cash Balance, AR and AP
  • Dashboard – AR Aging by Customer
With Nexonia Expense management and its tight integration with Sage Intacct we benefited from a more streamlined and easier expense approval process.

THE IMPLEMENTATION
As an added benefit the internal implementation of Sage Intacct at Kerr gave our implementation team real world experience in implementing a proven cloud based solution in a complex project accounting and billing environment. According to Dan Krishman, Kerr Consulting’s Intacct Practice Manager we learned the following from the implementation:
  • Having the unwavering support of leadership is the key to any successful implementation.
  • Listening to the requirements described by the stakeholders during the define phase and modeling the full accounting process should be the absolute cornerstone of any implementation.
  • Gave us the opportunity to train our people and build out the processes necessary for successful implementations that will lead to the growth of our Intacct practice without impacting any of our potential clients.
