Yesterday I got a support call from a panicked client whose computer had automatically updated her Windows 10 overnight and it would no longer boot up. She described the screens she was seeing and what the machine was doing but even the prompts offered by the computer did nothing. In addition, she was rightly concerned about her data and was facing several deadlines that had to be met.

My usual approach would be to log in to her computer using LogMeIn or GoToAssist and work on the machine remotely. But, since her machine would not even start, that option was not available. I talked her through a couple of ideas to no avail.

Luckily, here at Kerr Consulting, we have a staff full of talented people and where my experience ends, someone else’s expertise can take over. I talked to Johan Hernandez, one of our IT techs, about the problem, called the client and connected the two of them. Seeing that he was not able to log in to her machine, he came up with a solution that I would have never thought of.... Facebook chat. By using a video conference app, he was able to see what our client was seeing and coach her through the procedures necessary to resurrect her machine, retain her data, and get her back up and running.

The result? A client that still had her data and was able to meet the approaching deadline and a new tool in my support toolbox for the next time. All of this is testimony to the variety of talent Kerr Consulting has to offer. Working as a team, utilizing the various talents of the members, we can support our client’s hardware and software needs.
